Before you use it

Works well for

  • Pulling a palette from concept art or screenshots
  • Exporting colors to Aseprite, GIMP or CSS
  • Finding a scene's dominant colors

Not the right tool for

  • Exact pixel-art palettes with every single color — it averages similar shades
  • Choosing accessible color contrast

How it works

The image is shrunk and its pixels are grouped into the number of colors you choose using k-means clustering, weighted by how the eye perceives brightness. The percentage under each swatch is how much of the image that color covers.

Take it anywhere

  • Click a swatch to copy its HEX code.
  • Copy all colors as a list or as CSS variables.
  • Download a .gpl file — the GIMP palette format that Aseprite, Krita and Inkscape also import.

Frequently asked questions

Why do colors change slightly when I move the slider?

Clustering finds the best average colors for the number you choose, so each count gives a different set.

Are transparent pixels counted?

No, mostly transparent pixels are ignored.

Is my image uploaded?
