Before you use it

Works well for

  • Flooring, tile, carpet and laminate
  • Several rooms in one total
  • Boxes to buy and material cost

Not the right tool for

  • Curved or very irregular rooms
  • Underlayment, trims and adhesives
  • Tile layout with exact cut patterns

How to measure

Measure each room's length and width at the widest points, in feet (or meters). For L-shaped rooms, split them into two rectangles and enter each as its own row. Closets count if the flooring goes in them.

How much extra to buy

Add about 10% for a straight lay to cover cuts and mistakes, and 15% or more for diagonal or herringbone patterns. Keep one spare box — matching the same batch later can be hard.

Boxes and cost

Enter the coverage per box (for example, 20.5 sq ft) and the calculator rounds up to whole boxes. The cost uses the boxes you'll actually buy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert square meters to square feet?

Multiply by 10.764. One square foot is 0.0929 m².

Should I subtract kitchen islands or built-ins?

Only if the flooring won't go under them. Many installers run floating floors around fixed cabinets.

Does it work for paint or wall tile?

Use wall width × height per wall as the rows. For paint, also check the coverage on the can.
