How the check works
An Aadhaar number has 12 digits and never starts with 0 or 1. The last digit is a Verhoeff check digit, an algorithm that catches every single-digit typo and almost every pair of swapped digits. This tool recalculates it to tell you if the number was typed correctly.
Built for privacy
Aadhaar is sensitive. The number is checked on your device and never leaves it — no server, no logs, no storage. Results show only the last four digits (XXXX XXXX 1234), the same format as UIDAI's masked Aadhaar. When someone asks for a copy of your Aadhaar for KYC, consider sharing the masked version.
What it can't confirm
A correct check digit doesn't mean the Aadhaar exists, is active or belongs to the person who gave it. Use UIDAI's official Verify Aadhaar service, or offline e-KYC, for that.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to type my Aadhaar here?
The check runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted — you can even switch off your internet before using it. Still, only enter Aadhaar numbers you're entitled to handle.
Why does a real number show as invalid?
Usually a typo. Copy it again from the e-Aadhaar PDF or the card. Virtual IDs (16 digits) are a different number and aren't checked here.
Can I check a list?
Yes, one per line — useful for cleaning a form export before uploading it.
