Why we don't check the last letter
The Income Tax Department hasn't published the algorithm for the final check letter. Rather than guess, this tool checks everything that is public. For a definitive answer, use the official Verify PAN service on the Income Tax e-filing portal.
Frequently asked questions
Does it tell me whose PAN it is?
No, and it can't — it only checks the structure. The official Verify PAN service confirms the name.
Why is the 4th letter important?
It tells you what kind of entity holds the PAN. A company PAN with P in the 4th place, for example, is a typo.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The check runs in your browser.
