Remove location and metadata from photos

Photos taken on a phone often carry the exact spot where they were taken, plus the phone model and the time. See what your photos reveal and wipe it before you send or post them.

Before you use it

Works well for

  • Photos for marketplaces, classifieds and forums
  • Pictures of your home, children or car
  • Checking what a photo you received reveals

Not the right tool for

  • Videos (they have their own metadata)
  • RAW camera files and HEIC (convert first)

What a photo can reveal

Most phones save metadata (EXIF) inside each photo: the GPS coordinates of where it was taken, the exact date and time, the phone or camera model, sometimes its serial number and a small hidden thumbnail of the original. Sending a photo of your new couch can mean sending your home address.

Don't social networks remove it?

Many big platforms strip location when you post — but not all, and not always. Email attachments, cloud links, marketplace listings, forums, “send as file” in chat apps and many websites keep the original file intact.

Clean without losing quality

JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned by removing the metadata blocks directly — the image itself isn't re-compressed, so quality is identical. The tool then re-checks the cleaned file to confirm nothing was left behind.

When to clean

  • Selling something online from home
  • Sending photos of your kids, house or car
  • Sharing photos with people you don't know well
  • Posting on forums or blogs

Frequently asked questions

Will the photo lose quality?

No. JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned without re-encoding. Other formats are converted to PNG, which is lossless.

Why keep the orientation?

Some phones store rotation as metadata. Keeping only that tag stops the photo from appearing sideways; it reveals nothing about you.

Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?

Most browsers can't open HEIC. Convert it to JPG first with our HEIC converter — that also drops the metadata.
